From the Grand Canyon, we traveled across Northern Arizona from Page to Monument Valley. It looks just like a John Wayne movie. We actually entered the valley around sunset. l28t.jpg (2879 bytes)
The next morning we drove through the Valley of the Gods. This is on a smaller scale than Monument Valley, but there are still some interesting and beautiful rock formations. m3t.jpg (3520 bytes)m5t.jpg (4286 bytes)l31t.jpg (5752 bytes)
Here was the goal of the great loop back to southeastern Utah. Hovenweep is the ruin of an Anasazi castle, dating from around 1000 A.D. m34t.jpg (3887 bytes)m31t.jpg (4085 bytes)m36t.jpg (4374 bytes)
The Barneses headed back to Washington, and we continued west in Utah. We spent a night in Kodachrome Basin State Park, which has to be one of the coolest names for a park I know. Do you think we found some photogenic sites? n28t.jpg (4179 bytes)n32t.jpg (3909 bytes)
The next day we entered Bryce Canyon. This simply is some of the wierdest landscape we've ever seen. o28t.jpg (4051 bytes)
Our last stop in Utah was Zion Canyon. The Zion River creates an oasis in the middle of the desert here. Walking in the river was a great way to cool off at the end of the day.
