July 25, 2000		16783	A three state day. We got a pretty late start, by design, as we were gathering together and finishing our packing. The goal was to get to Missoula, MT before we stopped. We only made it to St. Regis, MT, about 60 miles short. Elapsed travel time was 8:45, and we made 421 miles, for an average speed of 51 MPH.

July 26, 2000		17204	Barely a two-state day. The goal was to make it to Wyoming, and we did (to Sheridan). But man, is Montana a big state. And we cut across the corner! 556 miles in 11:45, or 47 MPH. Two long stops for lunch and dinner cut into our speed, as did a lot of road construction on the Interstate.

	10:30 AM	17274	Missoula. Gas stop. 30.6 gallons.
	1:00 PM	17424	Whitehall. Lunch stop at the "park." The kids played bacci ball.
	3:45		Livingstone. Gas stop. 28.2 gal.
	7:00	17677	Hardin. Dinner stop.
	8:40	17737	Entered Wyoming at milepost 555 on I-90.
	9:00	17760	Sheridan. Spent the night at the KOA.
July 27, 2000		17760	Some real site-seeing today. We are finally touristas; not merely travelers. The going was slow because of all of the stops. We made 388 miles in 10:30, for 37 MPH. Not bad with the slow traffic around Rapid City and two long stops.

	9:00	17800	Buffalo. Gas stop. 32.2 gallons.
	11:45	17935	We arrive at Devil's tower. Contrary to some other reports, it really is an impressive sight on the horizon as we approach from the south. Spend 1Hour+ taking pictures.
	1:17 PM	17986	We leave Wyoming and enter South Dakota.
	3:00	18070	Mt. Rushmore. The parking lot was a little daunting, but we braved the concrete to the viewpoint of the four heads. The guys took the short hike to look up Jefferson's nostrils while Whitney shopped for souvenirs.
	5:20	18092	Rapid City. Gas 33.4 gal.
	6:30	18148	Wall, SD. Wall Drug is a big Fred Meyer with great marketing. We'll spend the night at the Sleepy Hollow here in town.
July 28, 2000		18148	More site seeing, and we should arrive at our destination today. A tiring travel day with great scenery but few miles to show for it. We made only 215 miles in 5:15, for 41 MPH. For the trip, we've traveled 1586 miles.
	9:15 AM	18148	Left Wall.
	9:30		Entered Badlands NP. With Russ taking pictures, our progress was pretty slow.
	11:30		Left the park, heading south to Nebraska. It turns out that that the roads here are very straight or fast, so the final leg of his journey took a very long time.
	2:30	18363	Crawford. The old stomping grounds. Gas stop: 27.4 gal.
	3:30	18369	Checked into Ft. Robinson SP. There sure are a lot of Joneses here.
