The Trip to Nebraska

A hard 3+ days of travel. (A few hours will be spent site seeing on day 3) The first day we planned on reaching Missoula, Montana. At 9:30 we reach St. Regis. A small river town in Montana, it is equipped with a KOA. The next morning we reach Missoula at 10:30. We plan on making it all the way to Sheridan Wyoming that night. About 500 miles from Missoula. After a long lunch break in Whitehead, we go for Wyoming. Dinner is planned to be in Billings, but the sleeping parents kept us going until Harding, 50 miles down the road. A good dinner at the purple cow prepares us for the 2 hours until Sheridan. We entered the Sheridan campground at 9:00, and were in bed by 11:00, ready for another long day. We leave Sheridan at 8:00 in the morning. Besides 1 gas stop, we make it all the way to Devil's Tower by 12:00. Unfortunately, we spend over an hour here. We were captivated by the large basalt tower. Apparently the tower is over 800 Feet tall. When we realized how late we were we decided to eat on the road. Next Stop Mt. Rushmore. As we approach the mountain we see glimpses of the faces. People stop on the side of the road and take a picture and turn around. We decide to pay the fee and enter the memorial. A giant concrete parking lot has been constructed in front of Rushmore. The older travelers notice many changes in the area than the last time they were here. The four faces erode only 1 inch every 10,000 years. After going on a guided walk we return to the R.V. It's after 4:30 and and we did not want to miss Wall Drug. We arrive in Wall shortly after 6:30. If you have ever driven through east Montana and east Wyoming, you have seen the signs for Wall Drug. It is one of the best advertised stores in the Country. It turns out that Wall Drug is just a strip mall of sorts with a western  theme. We ate dinner at the Wall Drug Restaurant and spend the night at the Sleepy Hollow campground. The plan is to leave early the next morning, drive through the badlands, and end up at Fort Robertson around 1. We leave Sleepy Hollow at 8. Plenty early. We drive through the badlands stopping often for pictures. As we leave the park, we think we have found a short route to travel by. Unfortunately, the road is windy and slow. We arrive at Fort Robertson around 3:00. After spending 30 minutes trying to find the campground, we stumble upon it. Then we spend 10 minutes trying to find the Jones party. We happened to be stopped looking around for the site when Steve read a sign sitting next to us that said " Jones Family Reunion." Finally, the day was over.
